Ohio Autism Scholarship Program | Autism PDD

There is an Ohio Autism scholarship that you can apply for once the child turns 3.  That's all I know about it ... other than that it's worth ,000. :D  We plan on applying it to ABA if/when we begin a program and if/when we get the scholarship.

Ohio's Autism Scholarship Program is a program of the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). The program allows ODE to pay a scholarship to the parents of a qualified child with autism. Through the scholarship, parents have a choice of sending their child to a special education program, other than the one operated by their child's school district, to receive the services outlined in the child's individualized education program (IEP).  It provides up to ,000 anually.

I was curious if anyone has applied, and if so (Kaviar, it sounds like you've applied?), has it been a difficult process?  I guess I'm also curious as to what the drawbacks might be??

I have a 3 yo dd recently diagnosed with ASD and she is in an integrated preschool class but no ABA.  And we really want ABA for her.

Thanks for any input!

oh, please tell me more! i don't know about this! I live in Cincy area

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Ohio Autism scholarship program.

I researched online and found some basic info, but I guess I wanted to know if anyone has applied for or are using these funds.

Any information would be helpful.  Thanks!

I never really look into it! Our daughter already goes to a school for only children with MRDD! her class is all autistic children, They have ST,OT and they also do other programs with it! They are very in tune with the IEP's and send a daily note home with our daughter about her activites and how she is doing! It is also Free for us to send her there since our daughter was in EI! The school is about 15 mins away the only other school i know of is one in Youngstown for just autisic chidren! I also heard it is ,000 a yr just for tuition! I cant afford that:( But i am really happy with her school!I haven't applied for it yet be/c Luke isn't 3 (I'm pretty sure the child has to be at least 3 yrs old).  I'm wondering if Luke will even qualify since his dx is PDD-NOS and not purely 'autism'.  Sometimes I wonder if all those different ASD categories are meant more to exclude children from things (like insurance benefits) than to help elucidate what they have.

Its nice to see other's from Ohio around here!!!  Where abouts in Ohio are you all from?? We are in a northern suberb of Columbus.  I am desperate to learn more a bout what our state has to offer cause my EI lady isn't helping AT ALL!!  Any suggestions of who I should be talking to, what I should be looking for, good places to go??  Etc???

I am sorry I don't have any real info about it other than what has been provided but I'd LOVE to hear more about it!

I have just begun learning about the Ohio scholarship program. Lesley provided a good link.....

From what I was told today because of all the serious issues I am having with the school It is pretty easy to apply for. You need to have a district assurance form is what I think they called it and have the MFE, IEP and dx attached to the application and send it in. I THINK (been a chaotic day here) that she said it only takes a matter of a few days to approve the application.

What happens is the scholarship gives you up to ,000 annually for your child's education. Basically you can pay to enroll them in a different school of your choosing (it may be your choosing from a list - not sure on that) BUT because YOU CHOOSE the school you can not file any complaints on the school you choose should they NOT follow the IEP or offer appropriate services etc. You have to agree not to go mediation or due process.  AlSO IF your childs educational needs exceed the ,000 per year  scholar ship YOU are responsible to pay the rest.
